A boy, six years old, leaving home.

A train moving east across Tennessee in 1932, carrying him farther from everything he knew—and toward a world he had yet to understand.

This journey is remembered in fragments—names of towns, the rhythm of the train—and this is an attempt to follow it, to understand what it meant.

And the beginning of mine, long before I knew it.
